Alonzo (Chaney) is de armloze messenwerper bij het circus en wordt verliefd op de mooie Nanon (Crawford). Nanon is bang voor mensen met armen, dus houdt ze ook van Alonzo. Stiekem heeft Alonzo eigenlijk wel armen (die hij altijd in zijn jas heeft verstopt), dus besluit hij ze te laten amputeren, zodat hij werkelijk met Nanon kan leven.
