May is een alleenstaande moeder in Echo Park, Los Angeles, vol mooie dromen over roem. Om brood op de plank te krijgen heeft ze een baantje als stripper en verhuurt ze een kamer aan Jonathan, een pizzabezorger en songwriter die smoorverliefd op haar is. Maar May heeft meer interesse in haar buurman, de bodybuilder August. Hun hechte vriendschap helpt hen door dik en dun in de harde wereld van Hollywood.
